After talking with my family last night, and having given it much thought, I will be seeking another opinion.  Did a lot of Internet research and came up with a doctor in California who is a leading fibroid expert.  His website has so much information it's overwhelming.  But basically he encourages women who have been told they need a hysterectomy to come to him for a second, or third, or fourth opinion.  In fact he's the author of the best-selling woman's health book, A Gynecologist's Second Opinion:  the Questions and Answers You Need to Take Charge of Your Health.  He has actual pictures on his website from surgery.  Many of these women have fibroids larger than mine, in all kinds of positions and the last pic in the series is always one of the repaired uterus.  There are dozens of testimonials from women who have stories much the same as mine and he was able to remove the fibroids and leave an intact uterus.  It's very impressive!  I'll go to California for surgery if it means my uterus comes home intact and healthy!  He has patients coming from all over the world.

So I called his office this AM.  When I get the MRI done tomorrow I'll ask for it to be put onto a disc that I will send to him.  Once they receive that they will call me to schedule an initial phone consult and we'll go from there.

I was feeling pretty discouraged yesterday afternoon but have a renewed sense of hope today.  Let's hope that Dr. Parker is the answer to our prayers!

And if anyone is interested in reading more, or knows someone struggling with a similar issue, here's the website for Dr. Parker.  The site is very educational and helpful.

  1. So great that you found someone who can open up a new door for you and that you were able to find all that new information. Miss seeing you! Can I come to California with you? When Gap selects McKenna next week as a finalist for their magazine, we will be flying to California for a photo shoot. We can go together. :) (I'm slightly over confident they will pick her out of the 4000 pages of kids who entered in her age group.)
