It's been an interesting few days. I went to Pittsburgh and was able to tell my niece and nephew about the baby. I thought my niece was going to be excited, but her reaction was well...interesting. The whole family was there and I said to them "how would you feel about having a new cousin here to celebrate next Christmas?" Silence, from both. So I repeated myself and my niece ran from the room. My nephew took a few seconds but then asked "are you going to have a baby?" I haven't pressed the issue but at least now when I mention the baby my niece is either neutral or has a simple answer. She did say she'd help me pick out some baby clothes while we were in Kohl's and has said she wants it to be a girl baby. My nephew was pretty excited, even offering to change dirty diapers.
Then yesterday AM, while still there, I woke up sick with a GI bug. Ended up in the local ER last evening getting 2 liters of IV fluids. My sister first took our Dad to the same ER that AM, then me, then her husband ended up being admitted last night to the same hospital. Everyone for different reasons, but all well now and recovering. Only my two sisters managed to remain healthy and strong during my five days there, thankfully. They were both wonderful and I appreciate them doing everything they did!! Hopefully I didn't infect anyone else! But while in the ER I asked the doctor if she could do a quick Doppler check on the baby, just for reassurance. She very sweetly came back with an ultrasound machine and said she'd do one better than a Doppler. So it was short and sweet but the baby looked great, heart rate 139. And the best part is my sister Nadine was there to see it! Maybe that was a little consolation for her having to take me and sit with me in the ER for hours.
On to the 21 week update...
What's going on with baby this week: Baby is about 10.5 inches long and weighs 12-13 ounces. By now all facial features are formed and hair is beginning to grow on the head. Eyelashes and eyebrows are growing. The sense of smell is complete.
How do I feel: Other than the above illness, I've felt great! Happy to be developing a more real pregnancy bump.
What am I eating: Except for yesterday and today, pretty much anything.
What I'm looking forward to: My next OB appointment with ultrasound Wednesday, January 2nd. Will hopefully have a good pic or two to post.
